He received his doctorate summa cum laude from the Martin Luther University in Halle in 1993. In 1999 he qualified as a professor and received the venia legendi for medical psychology. Dr Schultz studied sports science, psychology and educational science (master's degree) as well as German and sport (teacher training) at the University of Giessen. He has been a research assistant at the Institute of Sports Science at the University of Tübingen since 2008. He completed his doctorate in 2013, for which he was honoured with the German Football Association's Science Award in 2016. Dr Schultz has been a certified sports psychology expert since 2015 and in this role supports athletes from the Stuttgart Olympic Training Centre on their way to the Olympic Games.
